Visiting BBC at MediaCityUK

As part of a trip with the University, I went to visit the BBC at MediaCityUK, Salford. On this trip, we received a tour of the BBC's facilities including departments such as BBC Sport and BBC Radio Manchester.

For this tour we had Neil Land, Chief Adviser for BBC Sport, giving us a tour of the BBC Quay house showing us locations such as the BBC Sport News desk, BBC Radio Manchester, and the Red Button feed room.

It was a very good experience to learn about the BBC as a corporation, how it operates, and how interconnected it is now with a lot of departments being in one building.

Also, Neil was kind enough to give us some advice on how to get our desired jobs in the BBC. He told us to find any way in as once you're in, your opportunities for jobs is higher than someone from the outside coming in.

However looking back at the experience I wish I was more engaging with other members of staff as well as Neil and asked more specifically for me in particular advice on getting into TV Production.

Also, I would have asked for Neil to look over my CV as some advice from someone currently in the industry would prove to be very useful as they know what they are looking for in employees.

But overall I learned a lot about the BBC that day and want my future job to be within the BBC.
