Working at The CAT Media

While at University I have had a few opportunities to gain work experience and work with clients in previous years.

However, the longest job in Media I've had was with the University of Chester's Media department, working as a Social Media/Website Assistant for The Cat Media a platform for showcasing student's news, work and activities in the Media department.

This job was on a part-time basis with flexible making myself responsible for the hours that I work instead of having shifts, I'd work when I could around other commitments such as my studies, other client work, and my other part-time job.

This job involved me maintaining the Website (thecatmedia.co.uk) by uploading articles relating to the media department's news and current events. Also, I was responsible for operating social media platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.

This was great as I wanted to gain some extra experience in operating social media platforms in a professional way. I felt that I had given a good contribution towards The CAT Media and learned a lot from the job. I feel like I made the social media platforms more visually appealing by creating new graphics such as icons, banners, and thumbnails.

Also, I introduced a Facebook page which I felt was one of the main concerns when taking on the job because Facebook is the biggest social media platform in the world with 2.38 billion active users every month so I felt there needed to be a Facebook to attract a bigger audience.

However, looking back at my experience I wish I could have done more as each week I would fall under the target of 10 hours. I would have allocated more time to the job to improve other aspects such as: curating more content made by students, produced more for YouTube and made more use out of Facebook.
